Hi, We will have three/four days in Italy prior to boarding a cruise ship in Civitavecchia. We are looking for a quiet out of the way place to spend some time in that area. We have been to Italy three times and including twice in Rome. So we are not planning to visit the eternal city one more time.

Orvieto. It's lovely and not far away. Here are some photos from our trip there two years ago: Orvieto in May 2011 Simplest way to get there (without a car) would be train to Termini in Rome, then train from there to Orvieto.
If you have a car you could venture into Maremma (Southern Tuscany), in the province of Grosseto. Capalbio is a very popular gem, less than one hour away.
Also the Argentario Pensinsula is beautiful, with Porto Santo Stefano and the nearby Giglio island. If you go to the Giglio by ferry make sure the name of the captain of the ship is not Francesco Schettino.
