3 Days after Florence

For a 12 day trip to Italy we fly to Venice for 3 nights and train to Florence for 2 nights.
My family of 3 will be departing Florence on a Sunday morning, 8/24.
We will have 3 full days free until we go to Rome on 8/27. We will pick up a car as we leave Florence

I need advice, at this late date, on how to spend these 3 open days in Tuscany.
Stay in one place and trip around? Stay where and go where? I plan to drop the car in Orvieto and train to Rome.
Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Find accommodations in a small town or farmhouse somewhere along the freeway between Florence and Siena and use it as a base for car day trips. The CollE Val D'Elsa area is the most central to most towns tourists like to visit, but anyplace with reasonably close access to the freeway will work.
The most visited localities in that part of Tuscany are: Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Colle Val D'Elsa, Certaldo, Monteriggioni, Pienza, Montepulciano, San Quirico and many others.

Hi

I would recommend one night in Volterra and two in Montepulciano. Beautiful places, great food, and a nice drive with Montepuliciano on the way to Orvieto. In Montepulciano, stop in Contucci Cantina taste some great wine with Mr Adamo and walk 50 yards to your hotel Muebile il Riiccio(RS recommended and wonderful) and go up to rooftop deck. Drink wine and look out at amazing Tuscan countryside.

In Volterra recommend guided walk by Annie Adair and a wonderful little unlikely looking restaurant called Ohioja for the most wonderful antipasti plate ever. Also cant go wrong with the bra bar if the town fathers havent closed them down yet.

Buon Giorno
