3-day Itinerary for Sardinia (Sardegna); flying into Alghero

My husband and I are flying into Alghero for 3 nights in August and are looking for ideas on where to stay and what to do for the short time we are on the island. We are hoping not to rent a car, so location would need to be a reasonable distance/cost fromt eh Airport. We like the seaviews, beach, fresh fish, and sightseeing. Can anyone recommend an itinerary and reasonable location to stay? We are not into partying, so rowdy cities do not appeal (if that makes sense). Thank you

We just returned from touring Sardinia and Alghero was our favorite stop, and the hotel Andegras was our top stay. Quiet neighborhood, super breakfast on the upper patio, and very nice rooms, about a 15 minute walk to the old town.
I don't see how you could not rent a car, however, because other than the Grotto, which is reached by boat, the only beaches you can reach are in the city, and the coast is beautiful to tour. Also, there are wineries to visit(most close for siesta[2-4:30] along with most shops) in the area, and Sardinian wine is some of the best in Italy. We rented our car from Sardinya rent a car and where quite happy. Take lots of sun screen!

We unfortunately don't research Sardinia so we don't have any specific recommendations. I would check if Lonely Planet's guidebook has any more specifics and it looks like you have received some good advice from a fellow traveler so far. Happy Travels!

We stay in Alghero. I recommend renting an apartment somewhere along the beach north of the old town. The closer you are to the old town the better. Try and get a place with a view of the ocean. There are many choices on all of the apartment rental sites. You don't necessarily need a car unless you to get out of town. Visiting the grotto is a good tourist attraction for your first visit. You can go directly by boat or for a more adventurous visit, drive to the site and take the 600+ steps down to the grotto! Then climb back up after your visit. Good workout but bring lots of water. If you are only visiting for 3 days, you will easily fill your days by walking along the sea wall, enjoying the old town, and the beach is yummy! Great city. Night life is everywhere in Alghero and it is so much fun just walking along the ocean at night with everyone.
