We plan to do a 3 day car rental in Tuscany, but are not sure where to pick up the car. We are planning to see Rome, Siena and Florence without a car. But somewhere in there, we would like to rent a car to see smaller towns and the countryside. Any recommendations for a good city to pick up the car? We are hoping for a one-way rental. Thanks!

Depends on your itinerary but Orvieto is a great town and has a hertz office as well as Siena. We`ve rented and dropped off from both. Siena makes a great base for exploring the area. Hotel Italia is outside the walls, has parking and a nice e walk to the center.

Orvietio is not in Tuscany but a nice place to visit nonetheless. If your plans already include Siena without a car, I would pick up a car in Chiusi (on the main line to Rome) and base around Montepulciano for 3 days. Plenty to do around there.
