3-5 days in Bolzano region.

In mid- September, husband and I will stay in Bolzano for 2 days . We would like to do some easy hiking (day trips) in nearby Dolomites over a 3-4 day period. We use only public transportation. Should we take bus to Ortisei and hike around there? Or are there day tours from Bolzano ? Thanks!

I stayed several nights in Bolzano last September and, yes, there is a bus to Ortisei (St Ulrich). The bus station is next to the train station. As I recall, the bus leaves hourly and takes about an hour. Once you arrive you can take the gondolas up to the top. There are buses to other destinations in the Dolomites as well. All very cheap, comfortable and convenient. I don’t know if there are tours of the Dolomites from Bolzano.

If you prefer a day tour versus hiking on your own, you can find them on sites such as Viator and Get Your Guide. They will pick you up in Bolzano. There are likely other sites offering tours, but those are the most popular that I am aware of. Also, suggest taking the cable car from Bolzano to the Renon plateau and hiking there if you have time. Sensational views! Have an amazing time!
