Looking for fun ways to spend our second week (1st week on Lake Como), read about the Po River Delta, trying to do without a car...suggestions? Looking for a good travel hub, perhaps on E coast below Venice. 6th trip to Italy.
Suggestions?
Bologna, perhaps? It's a major travel hub. Here are some photos from our trip there in May 2008, in case you're interested.
I found an agriturismo in Le Marche that looks interesting for our October trip. It's called La Tavola Marche. I suspect you'd need a car, though. We're spending our first 3 days in Lake Como, then train to Ravenna for one or two nights, then pick up car, go to La Tavola Marche. They have some interesting programs (cooking classes, mushroom hunting). We'll also do day trips to Urbino and surrounding areas. After 3 nights, we'll get back in car and continue down the coast. Lots to see on the east coast. If this sounds interesting, you might contact them and see if it's possible to visit without a car.
Ravenna, absolutely - many beautiful mosiacs and a beach nearby. Padova can be done in a day trip from Venice, definitely worth it but make a reservation in advance for the Scrovegni Chapel. You may find yourself changing trains in Bologna, so that's a nice hub. I loved Ferrara as well.
