2hr layover - Rome arrival to Palermo departure

We're leaving from Chicago arriving to Rome at 8am and wondering if the 2-hour layover is realistic to catch a 10am flight to Palermo on Ryanair (operated by Malta Air)?

It would be if you booked both flights on one ticket booking.
I made it in 70 minutes two years ago.
If your first flight is late arriving, you’ll get put on the next available flight to Palermo.

If not, I’d give it much longer….four hours minimum…..and are you prepared to buy another flight if your first is really late arriving?
If you buy two separate tickets, perhaps plan to stay a night in Rome between them?
Does it have to be RyanAir?

Doubt it. Too many things are out of your control. PP control, picking up your bags, re-checking, and going through security along with the distance to your new flight.

Thanks for the quick reply! That's what I thought, we'll need more layover time. We arrive on tour date 9/21 but unfortunately won't be able to make the 3pm welcome meeting. And no doesn't have to be Ryanair. I'm not really familiar with airlines flying out of Rome to other cities. Thank you!

Have you already purchased your ORD-FCO tickets?

If not, you really should consider arriving a day early. The itinerary for the the firs full day of the tour looks busy and you could be dragging. The 8-9AM start time is the middle of the night for your body clock.

If you must arrive the day of the tour, can you get a single ticket from ORD to Palermo.

If you are going to be late, let the RS office know so the guide can leave info on where the dinner is and hopefully get there by then.

ITA has a 12:30PM flight, that as a separate booking, is a reasonable ( but not lead pipe certain) choice.

Good luck

Hi Joe,
I have a strict work month and after the 20th I'm free to leave my office, we'll arrive on the 21st, 1st day of the tour. We're accustomed to arriving same day as the first tour day, I'm not worried we'll be good. We're all booked to arrive at 8am in Rome, depart for Palermo with ITA at 12:30p and attend 3pm meeting. Positive thoughts! Thank you for all of your input, I appreciate it very much.
