(This is also posted with the France topic)
I am looking for info re. cable car rides across Mont Blanc between Italy (Courmayeur?) & France (Chamonix). We'll be going in May.
1) Does it matter if you start in Italy or France? We'll be in Italy and I'm hopinng to start and finish there to save going thru the tunnel.
2) Lodging recommendations - say $$ Db.
3 Suggestions for specific rides, hikes, restaurants, etc.
Thank you!!
I don't have all the answers you need, but will fill in what I know. You can start from either the Italy side or the Chamonix side. The thing you need to be aware of is that this ride very weather dependant. It closes quite often and can even be open for just a few hours of the day. (I am talking about the Helbronner part of the trip) Also, they have a season for Helbronner and I am not sure when it opens for the year. We were surprised to find it closed the last week end of September on a day that would have been perfect to make the trip. However, they had closed it for the season and were pulling cable cars off the ride and putting them away for the winter.
