My husband and I are traveling to Germany for business the last week of June. We would then like to visit Rome. We will most likely stay for 3-4 days. We would also like to spend a few days "in the country". We do not want to rent a car. We are looking for easy train connections. Any great suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Your challenge is that much of the Italian countryside requires a car to visit. There are some Tuscan towns you can visit by train - Siena, for example. Do you have an idea of where you might want to go in Tuscany?
Siena (3 hours from Rome by train) is a great choice in Tuscany. Orvieto (1 hour) and Assisi (2 hours) are smaller towns in Umbria that would be good choices. Many great towns "in the country" require a train/bus combination.
