First time to Italy, any suggestions?
Zurich train Florence 2 nights drive to Cortona 2 nights drive to Vernazza 3 nights drive to Sienna 2 nights drive to Florence sleeper car to Zurich, are we making a big mistake not taking in Rome, or are there some others to drp and add Rome?

I personally would cut down the number of cities for this time period and relax more and just go to 1 or 2 places (and definitely do not include Rome). To me, Tuscany is about relaxing. When you are there I don't think you will be anxious to pack up and move every two days.

Perhaps Florence for a city experience, lots of great art and architecture, Cortona for relaxing Tuscany atmosphere. I have rented an apartment there for a week and it was wonderful, I want to go again, but very laid back. I have not been to Siena or Vernazza. Perhaps these places would be more interesting to younger people, who may want more action?
