I have been considering going back to Italy, but after reading about the hordes of people attending this huge celebration that apparently goes on for months, I am concerned this might be a bad idea, even if I avoid Rome.
I am thinking there will be a huge uptick of congestion at the airports, public transportation, lodging and restaurants all over italy. Any thoughts? There is nothing on the RS website .

When do you plan to go? Italy is a popular tourist destination and is packed every year except for winter (Nov-Mar) when it is a bit better. Jubilee affects primarily Rome, because of the many Catholic sinners like me who want to redeem their sins wholesale (I went to Rome 3 times for the 2000 jubilee year, for good measure). But if you say you are skipping Rome, it shouldn’t be much more crowded than usual. It obviously depends on where and when you plan to travel. Not all places in Italy get jam packed and not all the time.
