Hi Fred,
From the description of your itinerary, it looks like you are on a whirl wind tour, and are trying to catch the best of Italy and Greece. I really think you have a solid idea about your points of interest.

I see you are spending 3 days in Venice. Have you given any thoughts to Veneto region, which is not far from Venice, and is an area blessed by luck and unknown to most people, made of ancient walled cities, amazing villas with magnificent art masterpieces, gentle and fascinating landscapes that offer high quality products which become tasty dishes through the hands of skilled chefs.

Fred,

I like the idea you are spending at least 2 nights in each city! So many people try to cover more cities and spend a lot of time just travelling to get there.

My thoughts are you have 1 night allocated for each Siena and Orvieto, and 1 night left in the middle. Siena could be a day trip from Florence which would give you 2 nights in Orvieto.

Or, you can day trip to Orvieto from Rome, and keep 2 nights in Siena. However, if you day trip from Rome to Orvieto, you would not have time for Civita. That is a day trip from Orvieto in itself.

It just depends which towns you want to see more of. I personally love Civita, and enjoyed having to walk up the hill to get there. It is tiny and not much to do besides relax and enjoy the scenery, food, and drink!

Interesting suggestion. What is the reasoning for this? It looks like travelling farther to Siena then backtracking to Florence.
Also, would it not be more difficult to travel to Pisa from Siena, rather than Florence?

Thanks Charlotte,
You will notice I posted a update to my itinerary and have two nights for both Siena and Ovieto so I will be visiting Civita.

San Gimignano is easier from Siena (by bus). Also, Siena is a on a branch line and the best logistics usually involve travel thru Florence regardless. I also liked 3 nights in each of Siena and Florence, but I think you are right to do Pisa and Lucca from Florence, where you have more direct trains.I have reverted to your revised option above. I like it. It works perfectly.
