2 open nights of travel between Venice & Rome

We are staying in Venice for 3 nights with 2 kids (boy 16/girl 12) & from there, traveling to Rome for 5 days.
Question is, we have 2 free nights until we have to be at our accommodation in Rome-Do you have thoughts on where we should spend those "in between" days/nights? Sounds like Cinque Terre may be difficult to find last minute accoms.

Our travel dates are end of June, so rapidly approaching!

Thanks for any thoughts!

Why not Florence? That's a logical choice if you haven't been there. Yes, finding accommodations in CT would be very difficult if your trip dates are coming soon.

Lake Como for water and relaxation.
Verona has the amphitheater.
Both easily accessible by train.
Have a great trip.

Here is info for the Verona summer season that I copied from another thread in this forum. I went to Verona in winter so wasn't able to see a show, but its still an amazing sight.

With kids, they might like Orvieto, touring the Etruscan caves. Or Siena, a bit more lively. Watch some youtube videos and let them help decide.

Thanks so much! This is helpful. We stayed in Siena years ago (without kids) & loved it, so either Siena, Florence would have been likely. Verona-with its amphitheater is appealing too.
Having the kids take a look with their input is today's task.

thanks again
