When are you going? What is your budget for lodging?

We are going for two nights near the end of Sept, so if you'll be there after that, I'll let you know what we did.

Stayed at Hotel Torcolo several years ago and would do so again. Good location near Piazza Bra. There is the Roman Coliseum, Roman theater, Ponte Scaligero, Basilica San Zeno, the Dante statue, Piazza Erbe, Della Scala tombs, Castelvecchio, and just meandering around the old historic district. Avoid the fake "Juliet's Balcony" and her fake tomb -- just touristy come-ons. Enjoy the many restaurants between Piazza Bra and Piazza Erbe. Examine menus carefully because donkey and horse meat are frequently listed.

We have stayed at Hotel Aurora on Piazza Erbe and I stayed at Hotel Bologna last year when I attended the opera in the Roman Arena. I would recommend either of those.

Besides the list of top activities that would be in TripAdvisor, I really enjoyed a biking city tour and a cooking class with Veronality during my third visit to Verona last year.

FYI- The price of hotels will be more expensive during Opera season, but it’s an amazing experience to attend an opera outdoors in Italy!

My favorite thing about Verona may seem very silly, but it's the citrus trees by the tracks in the train station. I arrived from Germany & Austria, and my first thought upon seeing those trees was the famous Goethe poem "Kennst du das Land wo die Zitronen bluhen..." It gave me chills.

Does anyone know if the citrus trees are still there?

Will be in Verona Sept 12-14. Can someone help me find the Opera schedule? The website shown on Tripadvisor has not been updated to 2019.

The opera season for the arena in Verona is over before you arrive. I don't know if there are indoor operas after the first week of September.

Hotel Europa is in a great location to the main piazza, coliseum and easy 15 min. walk from the train station. We took a taxi when we stayed there 3 years ago. It is a great easy walking city. Can't wait to go back.
