Hi, my spouse and I will spend 2 nights in Venice in October (sat and Sunday nights). Can anyone suggest quiet hotels (within Rick steves $$ range) and sites to see on a Sunday? Thanks, nic
Thanks, from 2 former Seattlites... Luv the pacific nw!
La Calcina in the Dorsoduro. Quiet residential neighborhood, 5 minute walk to the Academia bridge (and vaporetto station on the Grand Canal), another easy 10-15 minutes walk to San Marco. Or take the vaporetto about 50 meters from the hotel to San Marco via the lagoon. No elevator, otherwise perfect.
We enjoyed Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo. In the evening we sat in the courtyard having a glass of wine and getting to know some nice Canadian travelers. It is in a quiet area close to a vaparetto stop. Have a great trip!
We lovedthis B&B http://www.aitagliapietra.com/homepage.htm. It's 5 minutes from San Marco. We were not there on a Sunday so hard to say. The best part of Venice, though, is getting up early and watching the city come alive, closely followed by just walking around. We did really enjoy the view from the tower at San Giorgio Maggiore, just across from San Marco. A better view, IMHO, than from the Campanile.
