2 nights in Napoli

The wife & I are spending 2 weeks in Rome next month (Nov 5 - Nov. 19). I've just got a sudden small windfall that should allow a couple of nights down to Napoli to see Pompei. I'm thinking of leaving Rome around 9-10 AM, with the fast train getting us into Napoli Centrale before noon. I'd like to find a hotel somewhere near the station that will let us explore for the afternoon & evening, hop the local the next morning to Pompei, return that night to Naples, & head back to Rome on the fast train the next afternoon. That would give us an afternoon in Naples, a full day for Pompei, & then a another night & morning in Naples before the train back to Rome.

Any recommendations for a good hotel that's convenient to the station & also a good jump-off for a walking taste of Napoli? I can swing about $100 /night (or maybe a bit more).

We have just returned from a week in Naples and stayed at the Starhotel Terminus hotel right across the central station of Naples.
We couln't have made a better choice because we wanted to take train trips and be close to the station and Alibus stop. It is the closest hotel to the station and it's right on the pedestrian side of Piazza Garibaldi. It is a very nice upscale hotel with great soundproof rooms and quite affordable when we were there (around 110 euro a night). There is a nice large bookstore called La Feltrinelli right across the street along with a Sapori Dintorni supermarket where you can get drinks or snacks or whatever. The stores close at 9m and open at 8 in the morning. I can highly recommend this hotel, it was the 3rd time we stayed there and it never disappointed us.
