First time in Italy this year, full 3 weeks. I have a week set aside for Florence/Tuscany. We are going to spend 3 nights in Florence (mid-May) and then would like to rent a car at the Florence Airport, and drive for a few days. (2nights, 3 full days and return to Florence on the afternoon of the third day) exploring Tuscany.
I would love some recommendations on using our time best. We want to head to Sienna for sure, then see Volterra, San Gimigano but we're open to other suggestions. We could use Sienna for the home base and day trip from there, or would be open to spending the other night in a different town. It feels like there is a lot to see in Sienna so that feels like a place to enjoy the morning, hit the road for the day, and return to at night.
If you had that time, how would you experienced Tuscany visitors spend it?
Thanks
I would take the bus to Siena from Florence (drops you up in town faster than train)
2 nights in Siena
Spend the first day in Siena
Next morning rent a car in Siena to visit the hilltowns
Make sure you have parking in Siena
You can return the car in Siena or drive to Florence and drop it there
Where are you going next?
Make sure all drivers have an IDP- required by law
Have a designated driver if you plan to wine taste
Thanks Christine. I get my IDP next week, thanks for the heads up though!
We're on to Rome for almost a week after that.
