2 days in Florence. Firenze card or not?

Don't want to spend the ENTIRE time in Florence at tourist things, want to wander a bit. However, the Uffizi and Accedemia are a must. Looking for advice on what else is a must and if we should do the card or just make advanced reservations

If we do the Uffizi at 9:00 and want to see the Accedemia the same day how long should we allow for each?

We spent a week in Florence and went to the Uffizi several times. If you are an art lover, you could spend all day. If you are more of an art tourist, allow about four hours. There is a lot to see. For the Accademia, 30 minutes to an hour will do. It is fairly small and after seeing David, there is not that much to see.

We got this card and it worked well for us, but like I said we were there for a week.

With your limited time, it might be worth the cost to just walk right in! We found it to be amazing when we saw all of the long lines. We just walked past all of them, showed the card, and walked right in. Enjoy!

I looked very closely at the cost. We are going to be in Florence for 3 days and it was barely a cost advantage. The value of the ease of entry to the museums is a personal evaluation and tipped the scales for me.

The Accademia is reasonably small but contains a lot besides the David. There are several other sculptures leading up to it, each is unfinished which gives you a look into the artistic process of a genius. There is a good collection of Medieval and Renaissance religious painting on the upper floors. Even so, an hour or two would be enough time.

The Firenze Card is a bit pricey for only a couple of museums, I would probably just make advance reservations for what I want to see.

Hi:

I will hijack this topic with a quick question. The Uffizi site mentions that

"Citizens under the age of eighteen. Citizens of the European Union under the age of eighteen or over the age of sixty five. Visitors under the age of twelve must be accompanied".

Does it mean my 9 year old daughter could visit for free? But I am not certain what citizen means. If it means Italian citizen, it seems redundant. Could anyone give me a clarification? Thanks.

Tony

Tony, if you are a citizen of an EU country then yes, your 9 year old daughter can visit for free. The free for under 18 is for citizens of the EU only.

Hope this helps.

The Firenze card also has an app for iPhone/iPad I believe that looks quite good. The are also free hot spots for WiFi around the city for Firenze card holders as well. And it gives you free transportation on the buses and trams.
