traveling by car and wondering which hill towns make sense to visit for the classic tuscan experience - scenery, culture, food, less crowds - off the beaten path as we will have a car. volterra had been suggested as a good location to visit for both daytime experience as well as personality in the evenings. looking for 1 or 2 more heading north from rome. i was reading about orvieto and realized easy train access was not taking advantage of the fact we have a car.
