YES, bring your phone and camera! You'll want that classic photo of the Pope driving around in his pope mobile! Be patient. You'll stand in a pretty quick moving security line. Not to worry. Once through, grab a seat near a barrier/lane where the pope mobile will drive through. Take a seat and chill. Chat with the folks around you. There are bathrooms if you need them. Stretch your legs. it'll be a couple of hours hanging out but IMO it's worth it. I really wanted to see Pope Francis and got a cute pic of him driving by. Plus take pics of the guards in their uniforms. All good.

Oh Tandems, thanks for replying... but this is an audience inside, with tickets through our bishop...it is not the Angelus outside on Sunday, it is an audience on Wednesday inside theVatican so that's why we're wondering if were allowed to bring in cameras etc......

My traveling companions and I attended the Wednesday indoor audience about 8 years ago, with tickets given to us by the nuns at the convent at which we were staying. Yes, we were permitted to bring in cameras, at that time, so I'm guessing that you will be able to do so, also. I second the suggestion to get there quite early; for the indoor audiences, there are specific seating sections; the tickets are color-coded for sections. The earlier you get there, the better your view will be in your section. (There are also different doors to enter for the differently-colored tickets.) The two hours or so during which we were seated, before the audience, began were amazing! There were groups of pilgrims from all over the world, and one group would stand up and sing from their place in the auditorium, perhaps in French or Tagalog, or English, and then as soon as they were seated, another group, somewhere else in the auditorium, would stand up and sing, perhaps in Spanish, or Portugese, or Italian. Right near the end of the audience, attendees are told that the Holy Father will bless rosaries, etc., in a moment. When he does so, people throughout the auditorium hold up rosaries, scapulas, etc. I held up a rosary for my (Jewish) daughter to take back to her (devoutly Catholic) junior high English teacher, who was thrilled with the gift! There are several vendors selling rosaries, etc., outside in the covered portico area of the square, before you enter the auditorium area.

Interesting that you seem to have been informed that the Sept 28th (that's the date of your tickets?) general audience is inside as the Catholic Traveler lists it as outside in St. Peter's Square as does Santa Susanna's website...not that they couldn't be wrong, of course. Did your Bishop specify that it's inside on this date?

Dark Rome tours - who also provides a package with tickets plus a tour guide for the Wed. audiences - also lists the location as St Peter's Square.
