1st trip

My friend and I are planning a trip for spring of 2017. We want to visit 3 places. Venice, Cinque Terre, and Almafi coast. Where should we start and then end? Possible to fly between cities or would train be better. We are planning at least 10 days maybe longer. Any information you can give would greatly help Right now so overwhelmed with planning!

Fly into Venice.
Stay four nights in Venice, gives you three days.
Train to Cinque Terre, takes about five hours.
Stay two nights in Cinque Terre, gives you a full day plus the afternoon of your arrival day.
Train south to Amalfi, which will take all day.
Stay three nights in Amalfi
Fly home from Naples.

Nine nights in total.

If it's your first time over there, yes, the planning can be overwhelming. But I agree with the above:
- Fly into one city and fly out of another (aka "open jaw" flights). This really makes your transportation and trip more efficient. No extra time spent returning to your point of arrival to fly back home.
- Train between cities.

Other tips:
- If you can pull off a longer vacation, please do so, you'll appreciate the extra days, especially since you'll be figuring out a lot of things for the first time once you're on the ground.
- Try and stay in centrally located hotels to enhance your experience and efficiency.

Why do you not stay in the same area for your stay? For instance you could decide
Venice, 3-4 days
Verona, 2-3 days
Mantova 2 days
Ravenna 2days
Dolomite 2-3days
Laga di Garda 2-3days

Or
Florence 3 days
CT 2 days
Amalie coast 4 days

If you can extend to 10 to 12 nights, it will make for a more relaxing trip. Fly into Venice and out of Naples.

My only comment is that even though CT and AC are different places, to me they are quite similar. Also, this itinerary has you travelling pretty long distances East to West and North to South. Perhaps cut one out and add one of the other big threes for a real contrast and shorter train rides between. For example:

Venice-Florence-CT, probably fly out of Milan or
Venice-Rome-AC, fly out of Naples.

I agree with Peter's suggestion. If you have time, you could also visit Paestum while on the Amalfi Coast.

I also agree with Peter's suggestion. Venice, CT, Amalfi, and home from Naples. I have done both CT and Amalfi in the same trip, and yes they are both coastal, but, are totally different.

I would recommend the following breakdown ...
Venice - 3 nights
Cinque Terre (Monterosso) - 3 nights
Amalfi Coast (Sorrento) - 4 nights
Fly home from Naples

I am going to be the odd one out here. I have been to Italy 4 times, including the three places you want to go. I suggest the opposite route. Start in Amalfi when you have energy. Naples and Sorrento area is very fast paced. The driving is crazy. The Amalfi is breathtakingly beautiful. If you drive, have nerves of steel. Take train the Cinque Terre. It is fabulous..Hike if you can or just take boats to each village. Eat fresh anchovies. And drink Sciacchetra Wine. Then on to the ' Serene One'..Venezia. Drink Prosecco. Eat Cicchetti ...Rest..Relax..Rejuvenate... Fly home very mellow
