1st time in Venice during Carnivale

We are 4 adults arriving Venice on Feb 17th by plane from Paris for only 2 days. Please offer some suggestions to experience Carnivale for the first time.

Hi Joe
I went to Carnevale in 2006, had a great time. Here's the official programme to get some ideas of what is available to do and see
http://www.carnevale.venezia.it/

My husband and I had a wonderful time wandering around in the various campos, drinking vin brule (hot spiced wine) and eating pastries called fritelles

we didn't dress up but many people wandered the streets wearing masks, there are lots of places to buy them
enjoy!

Thanks ladies, I'm sure it will be cold but after a few drinks we should be fine. I was just looking for some suggestions from someone who has been there. We arrive late the 17th and leave early the 19th, so really we have one solid day to experience the festivities.

Joe,

Do post a report when you get back, for the rest of us. This is on my short list for 2010 :-)

From what I've read - no experience

A place to stay then can be hard to find since alot of people are in the city for the fest.
