I will be going to Rome and meeting a friend there from Russia for 7 days. I have been to Europe many times including Italy, but I haven't been to Rome before. It will be in late November, what would be a good itinerary for a week for a first timer there, I will fly in and out of Rome. Thanks
Any recommendations for hotels/lodging in a good location for first timers in Rome?
Suggest you look at the itineraries in the Rick Steves Italy book - they are wonderful suggestions and the "how to" for gaining entrance etc.
We have been staying the last 2 visits close to the Ottaviano/San Pietro underground station--300 yards from the Vatican.
The area around The Pantheon is very nice, but it's a little more expensive. We like the restaurants around there and it's very close to many tourist sights.
You might want to get a Rome guide book to see what the most popular travel sites are. There's certainly enough there to keep you busy for a week. We also found the suburbs to have many travel sights of interest.
Look at the itinerary for the RS 'Best of Rome' tour for as a guide for ideas.
Get a guide book to see what modifications you want to make to suit your interests.
You can get a new Rome book from RS

Thanks for the suggestions.
