1st time in Italy

Hi, We are traveling to Italy for the first time. I want to visit my grandparents birth places. They are in Novara and Asti. Where would you recommend we stay and what points of interest are there in these areas? Should we stay in these towns or somewhere else and make day trips? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Pat

How excited you must be! I'm sorry I cannot be of any help but there are some nice and knowledgeable folks on these forums. I personally count posting on RS forums as doing some leg work. Getting information from those who have actually traveled in those areas will be of tremendous value. We are in the process of planning our trip next May/June. Most of the tough decisions have been made. We looked at hundreds of reviews of hotels in the areas we planned on staying. And we are very pleased with our choices. Have fun with it!

What George is trying to say is that our responses are limited to 2000 character. Work much better on this site when you can ask for specific questions. See if TripAdvisor has any recommendations for hotels in those areas.

Thanks All, I guess a new question, and more specific is: Has anyone ever stayed in Turin and what was your experience? Thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat! Sometimes when secondary questions are added to a thread like this, they can get lost to the community as a whole since the question isn't reflected in the Subject line of the discussion you have started here. You may find that you'll get more answers to your question about Turin if you start another thread using the "Start a New Topic" button. Happy Travels,

Could you tell us where exactly (which towns/villages) your grandparents came from? Are they Novara and Asti, or some other towns in their respective provinces? The other question I have is whether you will have a rental car or if you will rely on public transportation. And the third question I have is whether you prefer to stay in big burstling cities such as Turin (which is slightly bigger than San Francisco), or mid-size towns like Santa Rosa, (e.g. Novara), or even smaller quieter towns and villages in the countryside.

Hello Roberto, My grandparents are actually from Novara and Asti and I'm doing research now to see if I get get more information. I know that my Grandmother was baptized at Parrocchia di S. Nicolao Vescovo in the diocese of Alice Castello. I would love to find this church but I'm having a difficult time locating it. I believe it's in Novara. I know the last place my grandfather lived before he came to the USA was in Asti but have no idea where in Asti. We think we will have a car that we will rent in Turin. We were thinking of staying in Turin and going to other places from there. We prefer to stay where it is most convenient to see other places in addition to Novara, but not sure where that should be. We think we will return the car and take a train to Milan and stay our last night there and fly home from there. Thanks,
Pat
