Hello! My husband and I will be in Northern Italy for 10 days in April and have never been to the area. I'm hoping somebody here has some advice about great food tours, sites not-to-be-missed etc. I have a food tour booked in Bologna and a pretty good handle on Turin, but nothing for Genoa and Parma other than I want to eat all the things. Any suggestions?
In Genoa, we greatly enjoyed Enrica's tasting tour: https://www.asmallkitcheningenoa.com/genoa-food-tour/
I'm saying this as someone who hardly ever likes tours and usually avoids them.
Enrica also kindly set us up to tour one of the basil greenhouses in Pra where the best basil is supposed to come from: https://www.serresulmare.com/en/
I'm pretty sure that this tour was the only tour I've ever been on that I 100% loved. I'm a gardener, I adore basil pesto, and I have visited greenhouses many times at home because of my volunteer job with a large plant sale. You just cannot believe what goes into producing thousands of perfect baby basil plants for the cooks of Liguria and (I think) some of the rest of Italy.
There have been many posts pretty recently in the forum regarding all these destinations. You’ll find lots of info on what you’re looking for!
I was in Torino last September & recommend the excellent food tour in my trip report. I love that city! Also covers a day in Bologna.
For Parma, it has my favorite church interior- absolutely gorgeous tone of frescoes in the cathedral!
For Parma, following Jean, the dome ceiling painted by Corregio in the Parma Cathedral and nearby baptistry were "not-to-be-missed" sites in my opinion.
