19 nights sicily in may

19 nights sicily may 2025

Hi. We are flying in and out of Linate. We arrive 11 am on May 2. Will fly Italy air to Palermo and arrive there around 5 pm.

For our 19 nights this is what I have so far. We don't plan to rent a car and have a few private private drivers lined up. I think the rest can be done via buses, trains or ferries.

We are 60 and pretty active but I'd like a bit of relaxation at end as we usually take "trips" and not "vacations" but getting older is requiring a bit slower day.

Palermo (4 nights) First full day will do a Culinary Backstreets tour to get acclimated to Palermo. Half day in Monreale.

Private driver to Agrigento I night- staying in a B&b that is walkable to the Valley of the Temples so we can visit at dusk and will visit museum first

Private driver to Ragusa for 3 nights-will stop at Villa Romana del Casale on way. Will visit Modica one day via bus.

Ortigia (4nights) - maybe a day trip to Catania. Want to do a boat trip here too.

Lipari (5 nights) will visit other islands from here. Staying at Taliaka B&B which is new with great reviews.

2 nights Cefalu and late departure and private driver to Palermo airport.

I prefer to base myself and not move around too much. Are we missing anything? Suggestions? Appreciate it.

You can do more of this easily by public transportation if you want.

  1. There is a train from Palermo to Agrigento.

  2. You can take train to Palermo and then to airport.

We stayed two nights in Ragusa and really wished we had a third so think you will appreciate that.

Hi. I know there is a train from Palermo to Agrigento but think we will use the driver since our lodging is right near the Temples but thanks. I was also worried about late trains for our departure and wanted to have lunch before we left Cefalu for airport so driver will make it easier. Appreciate your suggestions.

Well, we had a car so situation a bit different. But we went to chocolate factory in Modica but would have liked to spend a day there. There is more to see. We then drove to Scicli where we took Montabano tour. We then went to see Donnafugata Castle.

It was a lot for one day. We had to move pretty quickly and I would have liked to have lingered more.

We saw Ragusa the day we arrived and after we returned that day.

Valley of the Temples at dusk was a highlight of our wonderful trip to Sicily. Enjoy!

Hi Pamela - very interested in your itinerary as we are a small group of 50-60 somethings doing a similar trip a couple of weeks earlier. Like you, we have wrangled with the desire to see as much as we can (so many UNESCO sites, and beautiful locations!), but also to not be constantly on the move and have a more relaxed approach, especially on longer stays in the main towns.
We are doing a bit less movement than your itinerary, but will take a few tours/day-trips from Palermo and Siracusa, along with short stops in Trapani & Agrigento. Right now our top preoccupation is to figure out transportation for Trapani/Erice to Agrigento, and most importantly to get from Agrigento to Siracusa along a coastal route where we can do a stop or 2 along the way. Welcome any recommendations on transport - thank you!

I don't love moving too much either so hoping our 4 and 5 night stays later in the trip will be more relaxing!

I found a driver, Davide, that has been highly recommended on other sites. His car is a sedan and fits 2-3 people which works for us. His prices are better too. You can reach him by WhatsApp 39 366 866 9677. He's already booked for 2 of the requested times we wanted him so jump on it if you want to use him.

Good luck!
