Renting a car in Tuscany?

Hello,

I am planning to rent a car in Tuscany for 5-6 days. Does anyone have recommendations on who to rent from? Ideally, they would be cheap, reliable, and have a convenient location and pickup/dropoff hours.

We could pick up and return the car from either Florence or Siena. Any tips?

Thank you!

Use search box upper right to search on Florence and see the many posts about driving in Florence, the restricted zones and where to pick up and return cars to avoid the big fines. Siena train station is one possibility. Usually Autoeurope is least expensive but not always, most of us comparison shop.

We are renting a car in Tuscany for 6 days in July. We used autoeurope.com (at the recommendation of Rick Steve's books and from other websites). They are essentially a company that searches for all the best deals from car rental companies. we ended up getting the car thru Hertz for $287 for a 4 door economy car. They don't charge extra for dropping off at a different city than you picked up from.

You can find a map of the no zone area of Florence at http://www.bella-toscana.com/traffic/firenze_ztl_map.jpg

You can check http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/instructions/index.htm
for excellent advice on getting out of Florence with your car; signage, etc

Hope this helps.
