17 Day Italy Tour, Walking Sticks?

Hello, Reading through the tour description - if I wanted a decent hike in Dolomites, bringing sticks might be a good choice. But given other tour descriptions such as Lake Como or Cinque Terre where you might have many steps, sticks might be helpful. (I am old).

Any thoughts?

I think sticks would be very helpful in the Dolomites and Cinque Terre.

I pretty much bring my poles on every RS trip. I'd rather have them and not need them much, than wish I had them.

Be aware that you can't take hiking poles in carryon bags on planes. Many hotels in the Dolomites provide trekking poles. For Varenna and Bellagio on Lake Como, especially if it rains, shoes with good traction were very helpful but I didn't feel a need for poles.

@CD, TSA has been waffling on the walking sticks in carry ons thing. Lately, I believe the website says they are allowed. Certainly, if I was going somewhere that I could borrow them, I would do just that.

Thank you for all your comments.... While I usually carry on my bag, I have not been able to the last couple of trips.

Jules: I don't have any expertise on flying with poles but I believe it not just TSA but also any European airports' security that one has to worry about.

I have a bad knee and need a walking stick to join tours in Europe.
I found a great one that folds up, so I can pack it in my checked suitcase.
I purchased it from Amazon.

Hello! I was looking at Dolomites walking tour for just four or five days, (three or four nights). We are a group of guys in our mid to late 60's in average shape. So easier to moderate. We would use a luggage transfer company to bring bags to each destination. Any suggestions? Thanks! planning Summer 2026.
