We are a family of 5 adults staying at Hotel Italia in Termini area. What is the best and most reasonably priced way from airport to our hotel? Are airport shuttles always available there that could accodate 5 or do we need to reserve one?? If train in, is it too far to walk from train station with luggage?? We are hearty walkers....
Andrea, if you're hearty walkers than you could easily walk from Termini. It's about 1/4 mile from the station to Hotel Italia (at Via Palermo just off Nazioanle). If you go to their website you can pull up a map that gives good detail of the route - Very easy!
Of course that would be if you took the train in and the Leonardo Express is about 11.50 Euro apiece so that's almost 57.50 Euros.
I think, even with 5 adults, you may be able to beat that price with a Shuttle that will take you directly to the hotel door - and yes, the shuttles are usually vans and can easily accomodate 5 people. I've never booked 5 people (always 2 or 4) so I'm not sure what the fifth (hey, let them ride the train) might cost!
There are many recommendations on this board regarding airport shuttle service from FCO. I'd do a search and you'll get many options!
I agree with Kent who recommends riding, not walking - I would not want to have to walk anywhere dragging luggage after flying, jetlag, and airport challenges. Taxis would probably run you about 80 Euros total but money well spent! Good Luck!
Ciao,

I just paid 40 euros from my hotel in the historic distric of Rome to the airport. There were 3 of us so it was much easier that taking the Leonardo Express. Don't know if a taxi could accommodate 5 as the taxis are pretty small. If not, the Leonardo express is a great way to go. I've taken it quite a few times. Have fun!!!!!
Ask Hotel Italia to quote you a price and compare that price with RomeCabs.com. With 5 people private transport will be cheaper than the Leonardo Express train - plus you'll have door to door service!
We're paying 50 Euros for Rome Shuttle Limousine service, for 5 people.
The Hotel Italia is at the corner of via Venezia and Via palermo. The enterance is on Via Venezia. Via Venezia is a one way street going towards Via Nazionale from Via Palermo.
Walking 1/4 mile is really not a problem at all...it's adding all of your luggage to that walk where things get very tiresome.
On our first arrival in Rome our apartment rental agency arranged a private transfer to the apartment. I am SOOOO glad we did that. Even if it costs a little more than a train it was very much worth it. Navigating in a new city is always difficult, but I don't think I could have ever found the apartment without our driver.
He delivered us to Piazza Paradisio which is where our apartment was located...as well as 10 other buildings with apartments/residences. I didn't even have a clue as to which way to turn. The driver phoned the agency, found the building and then walked us to the front door. What a RELIEF and a blessing!
