14 nights- London, Paris, Rome. Is it worth visiting the Amalfi coast?

My husband and I will be spending our 14-day honeymoon in London, Paris, and Rome. I'm wondering if we should squeeze in the Amalfi Coast during the 14 days. It's my husband's first time in these cities, but my second visit. We have the following options. Which do you recommend?

Option #1 (These nights are more like 2 full days because a chunk of it will be spent traveling).
London- 3 nights
Paris- 3 nights
Amalfi Coast- 3 nights
Rome- 5 nights

Option #2
London- 4 nights
Paris- 4 nights
Rome- 6 nights

I would go with Option 2, just because those other cities are SO MASSIVE that you won't run out of things to do and it is less moving around, less wasting time in between locations.....

it really depends on what you want to be doing on your honeymoon, relaxing by wandering around seaside villages, or doing sightseeing.....I might even cut one end out and do London/Paris/Seaside France or Paris/Rome/Seaside Italy

Congratulations on the nuptials...

We loved the Sorrento peninsula and Amalfi coast in April a few years ago but it gets pretty warm there later in the year so much later than early May and I'd want to be somewhere else.

When's the honeymoon?

I would definitely do option #2. Too much moving around just wastes time checking into and out of hotels, etc. Have fun!

4 nights/3 days is barely touching a major city like London or Paris -- to attempt it in 3 nights/2 days is ludicrous. You spend your valuable time and energy on logistics with so little time to actually be where you are going. With only two weeks you don't have time for 4 stops -- and why extra time in Rome? To each his own but I'd give the two extra nights to Paris, or divide them between London and Paris and leave Rome at 4 nights.

First - Congrats!

Second - My husband and I hit these same cities on our honeymoon so I can offer a bit of advice!

I would go with your Option 2. Unlike another poster I personally feel 3-4 days in London and 3-4 days in Paris is sufficient (it was for us at least). Rome has so much to offer and 6 days there are well worth it. Keep in mind though hopping from one city to another (even by plane) will likely lose you almost a whole day of travel time (getting to the airport, checking in, flight, getting from the airport to your new hotel and then checking in).

So think of it as 3 days in London, 3 days in Paris and 4 days in Rome. (I'm assuming your travel day to London and home from Rome are not included in the 14 day count?)

Also, I know with planning a wedding its really hard to dedicate time to planning a trip too. I can't stress enough how important it is to have some of the logistics planned out so you know how to get from one place to another in a city, and at least have a ballpark idea of how long it will take you to see each location on your wish list in the cities.

Don't over-book yourselves with sightseeing activities. You want the trip to fit in the big sights but also don't want the trip to feel like an exhausting marathon. Definitely schedule some afternoons to just relax and ya-know...do honeymoon stuff. When you find it painful to cut something from your wish-list, tell yourself you'll return to Europe on your 5th anniversary to see more (that's what we're doing!)

P.S. the hop-on hop-off bus tours in Paris and London are a great way to roll from one sight to another efficiently and eliminates some of the planning involved in navigating, we felt it was money well spent in both places. :)

Lastly - Have an amazing time!

I agree with option 2.

London to Paris, take the Eurostar. City centre to city centre, quicker and more comfortable that the plane. Tickets available 120-180 days in advance ( www.eurostar.com ), book early for cheaper fares.
Paris to Rome is longer and a matter of personal choice, speed (cut-price airline) or scenery (train). If you are considering train, read this for more info: http://seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Paris.htm#Paris-Italy

My philosophy is most like Janet's in that I usually prefer more time in London and/or Paris more time than in Rome.

Since you've been to these cities before, I will leave the time allocation to you. I also recommend dropping the AC, it will just eat up too much travel time. Relax and enjoy 3 great cities. If you want a bit of "small town" take a day trip or two from your "big 3."
