14 days: Rome, Procida, Amalfi Coast

Hello happy travelers!
I am in the throes of planning my 14 day (June 28-July 13) trip to Italy for me, my husband and 18 yr old daughter. I would love everyone’s thoughts on my current itinerary. Our style is ‘less is more’, we prefer peace over chaos, and love to explore and eat! … and yes shopping for the teen!:

  • Rome - 4 days
  • Ischia or Procida- 4 days (opinions?)
  • Somewhere on the Amalfi Coast - 5 days (Sorrento? Positano? Paiano?)

Would love to hear any recommendations on alternate destinations, where to stay in the Amalfi Coast, and reasonable priced accommodations (~$200/night), and unique/special experiences.

Thank you all so much in advance

I can't offer an opinion on which island, as we haven't made it to either, yet.

Would you fly home from Rome on a RT ticket, or from Naples on a multicity ticket? That may influence some suggestions. If you're on a RT out of Rome, you would have to be in Rome the night before. Similarly, if you flying out of Naples and are in one of the small Amalfi towns, you might want to sleep in Naples the night before.

I know a lot of people prefer the small AC towns, but our preference has been Sorrento. It has quite easy access to the AC by land or sea, but also has good access to Capri, Naples and Pompeii.

Procida makes a nice day trip from Napoli, ferry takes about 40 minutes. You could then connect to Ischia by ferry.

Ischia is a large island and needs all the time you can give it.

The hardest part is deciding where to stay.

Unless you are going to Pompeii, we prefer the town of Amalfi. It’s the transportation hub of the Amalfi Coast.

How many nights in each place? It’s easier to understand your trip and available time for each location if we know nights.

Procida is very small and cute but 3 nights was enough even for these two slow travelers.
