14 days in Italy

My husband and I are traveling to Italy April 21-May4 and need help with our Itinerary. We love hiking, adventure and the outdoors but also enjoy history. We are flying into Milan and out of Rome. We would like to rent a car somewhere after we visit Cinque Terre to get to the Romitorio di Serelle in Tuscany. Does this itinerary look okay? I was concerned about traveling in April to two coastal areas and it being cold and rainy. Would you divide up the nights differently?

Fly into Milan and travel by train to Varenna, Lake Como area (3 nights)
Travel by train to Cinque Terre (2 nights)
Tuscany - (5 nights) (Want to rent a car and explore this area and do a day trip to Florence)
Train to Rome (3 nights)

Welcome!

It’s a very nice itinerary. Just a few things to take note of:
April 25 and May 1 are Italian holidays so that week will be busy everywhere. Easter is April 20.
The transit time from Varenna to CT will take the better part of a day so I’d give CT 3 nights for that reason (2 nights is only 1 full day)

You could pick up car in La Spezia for your Tuscany days. I would plan to drop the car in Florence and spend a night or 2 there then train to Rome.
(There are multiple posts here with directions how to pick up or return car in Florence)

We always book our cars with AutoEurope.com. Make sure you do your homework on driving in Italy (ZTLs, speed cameras, etc) and all drivers must have an IDP.

You will want to book your accommodations in Varenna and CT as soon as possible. Lodging is limited and books up early!

There is no way to predict the weather. We have been to those locations at same time of year and had some warm sunny days and some rainy days.

Romitorio di Serelle is in a great location for exploring Tuscany countryside.
Assuming you know that Rome will be especially crowded next year due to the Jubilee.
