Sorrento Hotel

Hello all seasoned travelers! I am in need of your expertise. My family and I are going to be traveling to Italy and staying in Sorrento to use as a base for amalfi coast/pompeii etc. I want something under 200 a night for two adults and one child. I have checked the Rick Steves book and the ones listed are not appealing. I have been to Trip Advisor and searched continuously for a place to stay. Please help me and let me know which places you stayed at (and when) and if you would return.

Cam, My husband and I are heading to Sorrento this Friday and are staying at Residence Le Terrazze. We are paying 70 Euro a night for an apt with kitchen and balcony facing the Bay, I believe the rates for a family are around 80 Euro a night but not for sure. I will be posting on the hotel once we return on Monday, but the site looks good and I've read some good reviews on the hotel.

My wife and Mother-in-law stayed at Hotel Il Nido -- a place we found on TripAdvisor (not mentioned by Rick at that time, but now on his recommended list, I understand) and found it to be wonderful. Large rooms, great view, friendly staff. Yes, a short (5 min) bus ride from the center of town, but just far enough outside to be quiet and peaceful as well...They both said they would love to go back and spend a week there!

we are staying at il nido as i write this and it is 100 euros a night with a fantastic view which includes breakfast buffet. they have a great resturaunt and work ery hard to please thier guest. they also have the free shuttle as mentioned in the prior reply that runs to the center of sorrento and back to il nido. we have been very pleased and would return again. good luck :):)

I have also read (on Tripadvisor) wonderful things about Il Nido. It looks like a spectacular setting, despite being a bit far from town, with a nice restaurant (especially good for a place off the beaten track, after a long day of sightseeing).

We are staying (late June/early July) at La Tonnarella. I think that it's probably a bit more than 200/night (all depends upon the dollar!), but it is right on the water, and it has its own beach.

We decided to splurge a bit more to be closer to town (still on the outskirts, but not as far as Il Nido) and to be able to enjoy the water that we're going to be seeing.

I was looking at Il Nido but how convenient is it? The shuttle that runs- what if I wanted to get into town early to go to the marina or the train station? Also with a young child I will probably need to go to the hotel once or twice before we are to retire for the night... do they get irritated with having to pick people up over and over??

they have a shuttle that leaves the hotel at 8am, 9am, 10am and 11am to downtown sorrento. they start to shuttle folk's back to the hotel from downtown sorrento at 3:30pm-11:30 pm on the hour. it was very convient, when we arrived on the commuter train from naples we just gave them a ring and they came in and picked us up. they work hard to please thier guest. good luck :=)

In March we stayed at Villino Chalet Paradiso. A small house in the middle of an lemon grove, easy walk to train station & downtown Sorrento. Had a double bed & folded cot. Very quiet at night. Welcoming host. We paid off season rate of 65e, I think it's regularly 85e. No website but listed on several sites,eg Venere.

Cam - you don't mention which month you'll be traveling. We are staying at Residence Le Terrazze in June and it is just under 200 euros - although the views are worth it! Michelle

We stayed in Massa Lubrense. It is the next village past Sorrento - very quiet fishing village. http://www.francischiello.it/ The hotel was great. Nice room with balcony looking out to Capri, pool, and FABULOUS restaurant. The bus stops right at the hotel. It is only about 5 minutes from Sorrento.

In 2006 I stayed at the Villa Garden Hotel in Sorrento. When we walked into the hotel I thought for sure that there was some mix up(because it was so nice). The view is fabulous! It was just a short bus ride to town. The staff was very friendly and the meals were excellent. I looked on their website and the rates still seem reasonable. www.villagardenhotel.com
