Info on Piedmont area in Italy

Rick does not mention very much about the Piedmont region. We would like to plan a trip to that area in September and would like suggestions/advice regarding that area. We particularly are interested in visiting the wineries. Any comments on the region, hotels, restaurants, sites to see, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Kathy

Wine region is primarily in the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero areas. This is the official site of the local tourism consortium:

I also recommend to get a guidebook (even at a library) or to look at other resources online. I know that Rick Steves does not devote a lot of his books to Piedmont, but there is a plethora of other resources that do, both online and in print.

The most visited places are Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta, Turin, Langhe & Monferrato and the Alpine ski locations (especially Sestriere and Limone).

The official website above gives you plenty of ideas:

Depends on what you like to do, but we found Torino lovely and wish we had spent more time (we were only there overnight). You will most likely pass thru so don't hesitate to stay. I found a lot of info online.
