I called the Accademia in Venice for April reservations, got a confirmation # but was told to call back two weeks before my visit to give them my credit card #. I thought you paid for the tickets when you arrive there? At least that's what I read in the Rick Steve's book. Anyone know???

The Accademia is in Florence. I've never heard of anyone paying in advance. Maybe this is new?

Or maybe someone wants to get your CC number for other uses? I've read on many of the sites that you pay when you get there.

The Accademia in VENICE is at the end of the Accademia bridge; it's official name is Galleria dell'Accademia. According to Rick's Italy 2008 book, it opens at 8:15 am every day. He says, "visit early or late to miss the crowds..."
