My husband and I are taking our son (26) on his first trip to Italy during the Christmas/New Years holiday. Both my husband and myself have been to Italy many times. I'm struggling with making sense to our itinerary. We have 13 nights - December 22-January 4. The plan is to fly into Rome and drive to Siena. I'm not concerned about jetlag. We've done this several times without issue. We are planning on having a car in Siena as we will be staying at an agriturismo. We will drive to Florence and return the car. The struggle is the Naples portion. Originally we wanted to visit Bari instead of Naples but the time to travel from Florence to Bari looks too daunting. Naples just seems so overwhelming, which is why we were thinking Bari. Would Salerno be a better alternative? If I stick with Naples, is there a certain area for lodging I should focus on? We are wanting something centrally located to museums and churches but something that will be quiet at night. Also, we are wanting to rent a car for the day to drive to my husbands family hometown (Spinazzola). Where would be the best place to get a rental for the day?
- Siena - 3 nights
- Florence - 3 nights
- Naples - 3 nights
- Rome - 4 nights
