13 Days in Northern Italy (looking for recommendations)

Hello all! Just signed up for an account and am looking forward to getting some feedback from those who'd like to share.

Currently working on my itinerary and am unsure if I should add or eliminate some destinations... I am also trying to figure out the length of stay for each location. I am very flexible.

-Flying into Milan
-Lake Como
-Dolomites?
-Venice
-Cinque Terre
-Florence/Tuscany
-Back to Milan for departure

This is in no particular order. I'm not sure if there is one location I should have an extended stay. If so, I am okay with eliminating . This itinerary may be too ambitious for a 13-day trip.

Thank you!

Welcome!

It’s probably doable minus the Dolomites

Venice should get 3 nights

Florence should get 3 nights plus - night go each day trip

CT 2 or 3

You’ll need be be IN Milan night before departure so 1 or 2 nights there depending on you interests

That’s 10 or 11 nights so far

You can go straight to Lake Como on arrival
2 or 3 nightd

When you say “13 days” we really need to know how many nights in the ground in Italy

What time of year?

Hi!

I would offer you to consider "north-east" or "northwest" (prefer northeast= have seen it more in depth)

There is a lot to see in Venice, Verona, Ferrara, Garda and Trieste..

Thank you for your quick response!

Depart JFK 7/28 on the overnight and land in Milan on 7/29 at 12:15 pm.
Out of Milan on 8/9 at 4:10 pm.

13 days was totally misleading as I look at my flight info. lol I was thinking about cutting out the Dolomites, too. Thank you for your feedback and certainly welcome anything else you may think of.

Totally agree with Christine that you don't have time for the Dolomites, which is a pain in the neck to reach. 13 days is not a lot of time, as there is so much to see in Italy.

At that time of year, I would cut CT and Florence and just focus on Lake Como, Dolomites and Venice. Fly out of Venice instead of Milan, if possible. Or fly into Venice and out of Milan.

Save CT and Florence for another trip.

So that’s just 12 nights

I agree with skipping Florence and CT-it will be hot and crowded there

Your arrival day (the 29th) will probably not count as you will be tired, sleepy, jet lagged, and have to get to your first destination. You departure day (the 9th) doesn't count as you are leaving. Unless I'm wrong (a distinct possibility) you really only have 10 full days. That being the case, I'd pick two (three at the most) locations and do day trips out from there. Venice is great itself, and is also a good place from which to do day trips to Verona, Vicinza, Padau, Murano and Burano. Remember, each time you change locations, you'll loose between half and three quarters of a day depending on how far you move. Personally I would go to Venice, then Florence, and end up in Milan as Lake Como is close by.
