OK, I think this is a really good way of looking at it. You're looking at trading Sorrento for CT. I think you need to spend some time reading about both places, and consider what other places you're visiting on this trip. Obviously we've choses to visit CT (from my other postings) but you know from my plans that we do much less traveling and more "staying put" then other people.

Oh Jaks this is so much better! I'm glad you've found there is plenty of help on these forums. First, your itinerary that includes Sorrento has 14 nights (not 13) and your CT itinerary has 13 nights. I'm not sure if the number of nights you're in Italy is flexible, or if that was on purpose. I think I remember counting 14 nights in your original itinerary too (Arrive Rome June 3 - Leave Venice June 17 = 14 nights). If you do have 14 nights, add a night to Rome on your 2nd itinerary. Either way, I like your second itinerary much better - for logistical purposes. First, you can stay in Rome the day you land (which I know you prefer to do). Second, there's minimal backtracking. You're starting in the south and working north (for the most part - I know that CT is physically north of Florence). Third, your travel time between each location is under 4 hours, so you have more time to see each city/town.

be careful, the first itinerary has one more day in it, 14 days. Either itinerary sounds great as long as you are okay with so much travel. I personally would take it slower and do this: Rome 4 nights (with day trip to Orvieto) Sorrento 3 nights Florence 3 nights
Venice 3 nights

Hello everyone, Thanks again for the reply...I did make a small error. I do have 14 nights for my Italy trip. Still thinking of revising.....this is getting tougher and tougher the more I think about it....and I know that is the problem is that I'm thinking too much about what we will miss out on. Thank you again Amy and Ted and everyone else. You guys are amazing. Jaks

Ok, I think I've come up with my final itinerary. Please give me the ok and tell me it's doable. Flying into Rome June 3rd from Turkey, staying for 3 nights Drive to San Gimignano June 6th for 3 nights Drive to Florence, drop car off, June 9th stay for 2 nights Train to CT June 11th, stay for 2 nights Train to Bologna June 13th, stay for 2 nights Train to Venice June 15th, stay for 2 nights
Fly out from Venice June 17th. I want to thank all of you for all your help. I obviously really needed. You guys have been really amazing, especially Amy and Ted. I really appreciate all the advice you've given me. Thank you again, Jaks

Jaks, I know you think you will be missing out if you don't visit as many places as you can, but when you stay someplace for 2 nights you're really only there for 1 day, 1 1/2 days max if you get up really early to travel everywhere. With your newest itinerary you'll only have 2 full days in Rome. Do you think you'll be able to see everything you want in Rome in 2 days? In Florence and Venice you'll only have 1 full day, but you could easily spend weeks in each city and still not see everything. To put it in perspective for you, I'm going to Rome for 5 nights next month and I'm having trouble fitting in everything I want to see. As I said in your previous post, only you can really decide if your wiling to constantly be on the move like that.

I think your choice of CT verses Sorrento will depend on what you like to do. If you see Sorrento you'll have the option to visit Pompeii, visit Naples, visit Capri, and see the Amalfi coast which is visually stunning. This location is more transportation-dependent and more history/archaeology focused. You'll need to take the train, bus or boat to visit these locations. If you see CT you'll be doing a lot of hiking and hanging out in little villages by the sea. This is a more relaxed take in the culture/hang-out location. If you decide to go here, put some thought into which village you stay in. Each has a little bit different feel. I've been to both and really enjoyed both, so you can't make a wrong decision. Good luck.

Jaks:
Three nights in San Gimignano seems like a lot. What do you plan to do there? It's not particularly central for seeing Tuscany via daytrips, and it's pretty small. By contrast, 2 nights in Venice is light, in my opinion. That is an amazing and complex city! I'd skip Venice if you can't give it at least 3 nights. FWIW we spent 4 nights there in October and barely scratched the surface. Going back for 5 more nights later this year and I still feel like I can't do everything we want to do. Ditto Rome. Spent 5 nights last fall, planning 7 more this year. My 14 night plan would be Venice 4, Rome 4, Florence 3, CT 3. You can see San Gimignano on your way between the CT and Florence, orsave it for another trip. I'd save Sorrento for another trip, too, as it is so far south from your other destinations.
