13-14 days Venice to Rome Intinerary Ideas

Working on my itinerary for 2012 trip & thinking of: Venice 3 days Pisa 2 days Siena 3 days with day trip to Florence
Rome 5 days Does this seem like a reasonable itinerary? We plan to use trains for transport. TIA

If it were me, I'd skip Pisa and add a day to Venice and either rome or Siena

You could decrease hotels stays by basing yourself in Florence and day tripping to Sienna and Pisa. Plus, hard to appreciate Florence with a day trip.

What Michael1 said.
You can do all that (what Michael said) by train (some travelers think the bus is a more efficient way to do a day trip from Florence to Siena).

I agree with the others. I would base either in Siena or Florence & then day trip to Pisa as well as other towns (for instance, Volterra also makes for a nice day trip). I can't see spending 2 days in Pisa...from what I know there's not that much to do there for 2 entire days! Otherwise your itinerary looks good. I'm glad to see that you're giving Rome 5 days...there's a lot to do there. Another suggestion might be to scratch Pisa, add 1 day to Siena (or Florence if you choose to base there instead) & then add the other day to Rome & take a day trip to Orvieto. I loved Orvieto and it makes for a relaxing day trip from Rome. Just a thought!

Hi Gonzy. I agree with everyone else. Base yourself in Florence for 5 days and take daytrips to Pisa and Siena.

Congratulations on being one of the first posters ever without an overly ambitious itinerary! I would recommend thinking in terms of nights rather than days. Venice 2 nights train Florence 3 nights bus Sienna 2 nights train
Rome 5 nights Depending on your flights of course but I like the idea of ending in Rome. You may have to start there as well and take the train to Venice.

Regarding an overly ambitious itinerary - I learned from our 28 day trip to Spain and France! :-) Will need to end in Rome before going on to Istanbul. Looks like we'll do Venice 3 nights Florence 5 nights (renting an apartment) with day trips to Pisa and Siena Rome 5 nights (renting an apartment) Any other suggestions, keep 'em coming! Thanks everyone!

That sounds perfect although my wife would want to split time in the Tuscan country side with Florence. Plan some meals for the beginning or end of a self guided RS tour and pick his recommended restaurants. We did this in Rome for example eating at Al Bric and then doing the night time walk. It was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.

I agree with previous posters that Pisa doesn't warrant 2 days, or even 1 full day. Basing yourself in Florence and doing day trips to Pisa and Siena will work wonderfully, you can even add on another town to your Pisa day if you'd want.
