(1) We have a direct flight from Seattle to Munich and were planning on checking our baggage. When we land in Frankfurt do we need to collect our baggage for customs? We have only a 1 hour layover in Frankfurt.
(2) A Venice accommodation is asking that we need to make a money transfer to reserve our rooms. Has anyone stayed at the Casa per Ferie Santa Maria della Pieta and is this legitimate?

Do you then have a connecting flight on the same ticket to Venice with bags checked through to Venice? If you, you go through immigrations in Munich and customs in Venice. If you don't, then your claim your bags and go through both immigrations and customs in Munich, then re-check your bags to Venice and, of course, security.
It is common to ask for a deposit especially if a discounted room.

Hi, I am staying at the Casa per Ferie Santa Maria della Pieta next week and I did send them a wire transfer for the first night's stay. I wish I had sent enough for the whole stay because my bank charged me $30. It went very smoothly and they confirmed receipt within a few hours through an email. The bank on my end has a record of it too.
