In June there will be two of us landing at Zurich airport. We will be coming in the morning and then traveling to Zermatt where we will stay for two nights. The first night will be our R & R night. From there we will be heading to Stresa for four nights. Then we lead to Cinquei Terre at Riomaggiore. We will spend 4 nights in Cinque Terre. We the leave for Milan for two nights
My questions
1) is Zermatt for two nights and Stresa for three nights sound good.
2) can anyone recommend a good place to stay in Stresa close to train station?
3) is Riomaggiore a good base for Cinque Terre. Does 4 nights sound good. We are hikers
4) can anyone recommend. Good place to stay in Milan. We are traveling by train so I was thinking of one night in Milan and them last night close to airport. Our flight is at 10 a.m.
5) should we cut a day somewhere and stay in Milan an extra day
thanks!
- In the text you say 2 nights in Zermatt and 4 nights in Stresa, then in Q 1 you say 2 nights in Zermatt and 3 nights in Stresa. I'll say 3 nights in Zermatt and 3 nights in Stresa. You might want to have an extra night in Zermatt in case of one day of bad weather.

- Stay in a hotel near Cadorna station. The Malpensa Express trains start running at 5:28 am and run every half hour. the .28 trains take 29 minutes to the airport, and the .58 trains take 36 minutes. That should get you to the airport as fast as if you stayed a mile away and took a hotel shuttle.
- Totally dependent on your interests. Nightlife? Culture? History? Art & Architecture?
We happen to prefer Riomaggiore. Have stayed there twice, each of the last two Octobers. You can read about some hiking ideas here, here, here and here. To me, 4 nights is a good start. :-)
As to Milan, go there for your last night. Leave Riomaggiore early, drop your bags, head out and see the Duomo, go shopping at La Rinascente, maybe get tickets to The Last Supper (it is fabulous!). Spend the night in central Milan, then take a train from Cadorna to the airport. You have to leave quite early, but it is worth it to have a last night in a beautiful city instead of at the airport!
Hotel Eden in Stresa is right across from boat docks and within walking distance of train station.
