Rail Questions

Hi everyone!

I have a question regarding the "Carta Verde" pass for Italy's train system. I found some information on Trenitalia's website, but I am confused as to how this works. Where and when can I need to buy the pass? How do I get the discount? Is it worth getting the card at all?

Any enlightenment on this subject would help. Thanks!

Laura...assuming that you're 26 or younger, the pass costs 40 Euro and gives you only 10 per cent off regular fares around Italy, but 25 per cent off some international trains leaving from Italy. They can be purchased at any train station and are valid for a year. According to the regulations, there doesn't seem to be any restriction on citizenship, just proof of age is needed. But you can purchase advance Amica fares that'll give you 20% off many Italian trains. I'm not sure it would be worthwhile unless you plan to do a lot of travelling by rail.
