I'm having trouble finding an early morning train from Vienna to Venice April 2014. When we get to Venice, we rent a car and drive an hour to NE Italy by the Slovenia border, so we want to get to Venice early in the day. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Go to the Wien Meidling station (not the new Hbf=central) where at 6:30 you take train IC/EC 31 to Venezia Mestre where you arrive at 13:53.
You should pick up your car at VE Mestre, to save time. There are rental car offices across from the station.
It's almost an 8 hour trip, so you can't get there earlier unless you leave the night before.
Of course a flight would be faster but a non stop on Austrian Airlines to VCE is totally exorbitant since they are the only non stop.
