hi fellow travellers,we are planning another trip to italy and do not want crowds or poor weather.we wish to visit venice, milan, como, lucca and cinqueterra if possible.it appears the mid may is best for temperature and min. rain fall.i would like some input in what others have found.thanks.steve
Although weather is becoming very unpredictable nowadays (we are having an unusually hot January in California with temps in the 70s and 80's), May is generally good in Northern Italy. It's warm but not scorching hot and rain is less likely than earlier in Spring (although not as dry as June and July).
Unfortunately crowds are at their highest at the end of April and May. In addition to the many Italian and foreign tourists, during those two months, there are hordes of unruly high school students from all over Italy (and the rest of Europe) in school trips organized by their schools, particularly in the art cities (Florence, Venice, Rome). These tend to particularly overwhelm museums and other art sights, so be prepared to be stampeded.
