Hi am planning Honeymoon trip for my wife and I. Would like to see as much of Italy as possible without it being to rush and hectic. See the major sights , some nice scenery and nice traditional Italian food. Have the following places in mind .. but not sure how to split the days up

(in priority)
1. Florence
2. Rome
3. Venice
4. Sienna - with Day trip to Pisa
5. Cinque Terre
6. Milan (Unsure)
7. Sorrento - Day trip to Pompeii (Unsure)

First of all try to get your tickets open jaw. Fly into either Venice or Rome and fly out via the other.
For example fly into Rome 4 nights in Rome take the ES rapido to Florence for 4 nights with a day trip to Siena and a day trip to Pisa take the train to Venice for four nights fly home.

Rule of thumb is that every time you relocate you lose half a day.

What time of year will you be travelling?

Will be travelling in June, so i guess it will be Super Peak period. I guess the intention is to visit the place like a holiday together rather then just relax in 1 place (otherwise i would have gone to a beach resort). It's our first holiday together so we do not want to rush but at the same time cover the major sights.

If it were me:
Florence 3 nights (day trip to Siena)
Rome 3 nights
Venice 3 nights
Cinque Terre 2 nights Sop at Pisa on the way
Milan-leave for another trip. Unless you have your heart set on seeing the last supper or something I would skip it this trip. You already have 3 great cities in your itinerary. For me, Milan would come in 4th place when deciding my priority to visit. (I've been to all these places before)
That is 11 nights. I would then spend some time researching what I wanted to see in each city before deciding where to use my extra night. Of course, this is all just my opinion. You will have to make the hard choice yourself. The good news is you can't go too wrong in Italy. Have a great honeymoon.

Lets stick with guide line 1: No hectic, No rushing.
If romance is a fundamental part of the equation, then eliminate Rome, Pisa, Cinque Terre, and Pompeii.
Start in Florence. Bring a full sized lock and key for the Ponti Vecchio. On the first evening with your love, walk to the middle of the bridge, tell your woman that you love her, place your lock on the iron bar, or thru other locks, on the north-east side of the middle open section, then throw the ONLY key that opens that lock in to the Arno. Its okay to do this - its a tradition. Act with NO hesitation. Your wife will remember this moment forever. Walk to the Michaelangelo Over Look on the other side of the river and witness the sunset over Florence. Bring wine and make a toast to your new lives together. Make a day trip to Lucca and rent bicycles to ride the top of the city walls. Bring a picnic... ie more wine. Back to Florence.
Rent a car or motorcycle, and drive the 222 down to Siena, where you will over night. Walk the streets in the evening and the rampart walls. Take part in the evening Passeggiata. Dress well and walk slowly arm in arm. You are showing off your bride.
In the morning continue South and do the a grand circle of the hill towns, returning to Siena.
Head back to Florence, and do what ever you want for three days. Climb Giotto's tower. Go to the Ruins at Fiesole.
Then take the train to Venice, which will stop in Milan. In Milan see the Duomo and its roof top. Continue to Venice.
I prefer the west end of the Grand Canal. Aside from the major sites, it is actually VERY FUN to get lost in Venice. Every new corner you turn upon is a whole new section of the city. It is cheesy, but rent a gondola: at night. Even if it is expensive. Tell the Gondolier he has the most magnificent boat in all of Venice. Take a water taxi to the Airport. Then fly out of Venice. Gustare!

Henry - Yikes! 50 Euro fine if they catch you leaving a lock! Thanks for posting that article.

Ouch! Why would they do that? Thank You for the link.

My wife and I are going back this fall, and mysteriously, in the middle of the night, there will be another lock on that bridge. ;)

Kenneth ~ limit the number of cities as your itinerary is TOO HECTIC! You will appreciate the cities more the longer time spent there rather than spending your time traveling from one city to the next. I spent 45 days last summer traveling Italy ~ my opinion you should focus on Rome, Venice & the Amalfi Coast as these sights are very Romantic. Sorrento & the Amalfi Coast is breath-taking! Rent a scooter & drive the Amalfi Coast – have dinner in Ravello. I wouldn't stay in Sorrento as there are more beautiful cities along the Amalfi Coast.
