12 days in Italy with 2 kids

Hi there. We are thinking of a 13 days trip to Italy in late Nov'09. We are likely to fly into Rome, and fly out from Milan when the trip ends. This is the second time that my husband and I are going to Italy, but the first for our kids (10 and 7 yr old). We would like to see a couple of new places but know the contraints of the kids' stamina. (Whinning and complaining). Earlier on, we been to Rome, Pisa, Florence, but was so so long ago. Personally, I would love to visit a Tuscany Village and stay in a nice cosy farmhouse with some activities for kids.

The reason why we are flying out from Milan is, we are meeting up with a friend who lives in Lecco. We would probably visit there for 4 days.

Would you be able to suggest somewhere else doable with 2 kids ?

Monica,

You might have a look at the "Travel With Kids" section in the Graffiti Wall. There are LOTS of comments from other travellers regarding the methods they've used.

Given the age of your children, I'd suggest keeping activities short so that you don't exceed their "attention span". They also won't have the same energy level, so you'll probably have to take frequent breaks.

Good luck and happy travels!

I've taken my two boys to Italy since they were 7 and 5. Today they are 28 and 26. When they were young we took games and some new toys for them to play with. We also took some travel size board games where we could all play during train trips.

As for the sights we saw, we tried to do something in the morning and something in the afternoon. We returned to the room in the late afternnon for a nap. After dinner we walked around, as is the Italian custom called passiggiata, and always found a gelatoria (ice cream store).

My ex always complained, but I treasure those travel memories. I do recommend patience on your part.

Buon viaggio,
