12 days in Europe beginning in Venice

I would like to travel Europe for 12 days in the Fall.
I have already been to Pompeii, Florence, Rome (twice), Venice, Paris.

In Italy, I would like to include Rome 2 days- (include mass), Tuscany.
Otherwise, I would like to visit Amsterdam, French Rivera, Swiss Alps, an island, Austria, Germany, and France.
Would someone kindly suggest an itinerary or where to find good train/ bus route?

I would like to travel Europe for 12 days

Does that include your arrival and departure days?

Are you flying into Venice at the beginning of your trip? From which airport will you depart? How many nights do you wish to spend in each location? What are your interests? It's difficult to provide suggestions without knowing more details.

hey hey sils
like laurel says why start in Venice when not even on your radar? if you want Rome fly to Rome. what island who knows.
you need to look at a map and decide where you want to go, drop a few places or add another 2-3 weeks for this kind of travel.
check how long travel time between cities on bus and trains are you counting packing up,checking out getting to transportation, length of ride and checking in next place, seeing city you want. Miracles can happen but i doubt this vacation will, my opinion but your perogative. Good luck have fun

I am flying into Venice because it was the cheapest price to Europe at that time. I had thought to repeat my itinerary from previous trips to Italy but, re-thinking it.. why not extend and visit other bordering or nearby countries?
I do not plan to visit them extensively.
If anyone has done this before, which I am sure you have, submit advice, suggestions, and ideas. Thank you.

How much cheaper are the tickets into Venice than into Rome? Cause you have to figure in the train cost from Venice to Rome and it will eat up most of a day of your trip, so figure in a hotel night? How important is it to go to Rome this trip? I would probably either fly into Rome if that's a priority, or fly into Venice to start the trip with Tuscany. Do you plan to rent a car for Tuscany? If not Siena is probably your best bet, it is IN Tuscany, is a hilltown (though a large one) and has day trips to other towns. What ever you do, this portion of your trip will take at least 5 or 6 nights. You say you want to visit an island, Elba would be the only one anywhere close. You could do that for a couple days.

Then you really need to pick at most two of the other places. You could probably do a couple days on the French Riviera and then head to Switzerland flying out of Geneva. Or French Riviera then up to Strasbourg France and into a bit of Germany and fly out of there. If either Amsterdam or Austria are priorities you'd pretty much need to skip a lot of the rest in order to travel up there and spend any time.

Ok, I am going to play along. Upfront, I have never done this and couldn’t (so haven’t even researched). And I can’t really see how you could do it all either. But you could do some of it and save the rest for later.

Since you already have tickets into Venice: why not skip Rome and Tuscany this time (wrong direction and half your time)? Next, start with some basic homework about budget flights between locations. Go straight from Venice to your first city. Which one would depend on available flights and I don’t know since I haven’t done this. For example, a 30 second google search shows Venice to Nice on Easy Jet (didn’t check any further for dates and times). You might be able to do something similar to Vienna.

Choose 3 cities/locations for 3 nights each, and include spending a day transitioning = your trip.

It’s all about your top priorities, workable transportation between them, and your budget. Although many people on this forum travel a lot and there is a mass of collective knowledge, regulars wouldn’t try to hit ALL your list for good reasons. And no one here knows how you would order your top (realistic) places to see nor what your budget is.

Hope that helps as you do further research! I do think seeing some new places is a great idea!

(Not to be mean, silschleich): @princess pupule, I actually laughed out loud “miracles can happen but I doubt this vacation will”

12 days is enough to enjoy just in Italy, but you have been there.

If you spend two nights in Rome and another 2 in Tuscany, that gives you 8 more days. Stay close and visit either Switzerland or Austria and Bavaria.
