11 days in Italy in February

My husband and I are flying into Rome, and out of Milan 11 days later. We have our plane tickets purchased - and that's it! Although it would be nice to fly by the seat of our pants, we don't want to miss any must-sees. Also, we will be traveling in mid-February, so I know that changes things a bit. Suggestions?

If this is your first trip, do the classics - Rome, Florence and Venice. Train back to Milan to catch your flight home but don't spend any time there. You'll need to check hotel availabilities in Venice if you'll be there during Carnival.
