11 days in Italy

I will be taking a train from paris into Italy and I want to see Venice, Florence/Hill Towns, Cinque Terre and Rome. Is this doable? Should I drop one of these stops, if so, which one? I will be flying back home from Rome, so dropping Rome is obviously out of the question.

Hi Joseph,
I think it's doable--Rick's Italy book lays out the itinerary for the trip in that order--Venice, (3-3.5 hour train) to Florence. Florence (2.5 hour train to La Spezia for Cinque Terre), then, from La Spezia to Rome (4 hour train.) You can divide the time however you'd like but you may want to allocate more time for Florence to visit the Hill Towns and Rome.

It's doable, but traveling will be a factor. Coming from Paris to Italy (Venice I would assume) would be an all-day trip (about 11 hrs.). Considered coming in on an overnight train?

Anyway, with 11 days (10 nights) you could spend 2 nights in Venice, 3 nights in Florence (with a possible daytrip to Siena), 2 nights in CT, and 3 nights in Rome. There would be a lot of traveling, but that would give you enough time to cover each, hitting the highlights. Of course, cutting 1 stop out could give you roughly an extra day in each of the other locations, but if you want to see them all you can very well do it.

I agree with Stuart. You might have to consider dropping the Tuscan hill towns except for the day trip to Siena mentioned by Stuart. It's tight but doable.
