ITALY-CINQUE TERRE

B...well it wont be too warm if thats what your lookin for. It'll probably be a modest 45 50 degrees. Rainfall at random as well but doable.

Eric: 45-50 Degrees is not a problem for us at all. We've been to China in Nov when the Temp was in the 40s. Didn't hurt our trip at all. Just want to see the area and towns. Would the towns be still open to tourists? Can we get around the various cities in Cinque Terre by train? Would there be places open to stay overnight? Thank you, Brenda

The city can b overwhelmed by foreign visitors n summer so its nice to visit n the winter like ur doing but beware...cold...minimal places to stay...and rain can burst ur bubble. Athough much of the damage from the floods of 2011 have been repaired its still not done. Two of the trails shud just have opened recently tho. Vernazza is also still in a measure of disrepair...I suggest maybe Riomaggiore or Corniglia for sleeping but only small places will b open. Yes in winter the Cinque Terre is bomb but its best n non-rainy weather because the hiking paths will close if the weather is inclement. Even if it's not raining by the time you arrive, if it rained recently sections of paths might have washed away, forcing the entire route to be closed down. It can be beautiful when u arrive...but if it has recently rained...dont expect much hiking. Yes of course trains are doable...but who travels the 5T by train? The paths are beautiful!!

Brenda, You should be able to find historical weather data for that area on the internet, but of course the weather can vary from year-to-year so that's only a guideline. The temperatures may be around 15C to 7C, with perhaps 140 mm of rain in November. That time of year is not the best for visiting the C.T., as many of the hotels, restaurants and other tourist businesses will be closing for the season. There will probably still be a few open, but I'm not sure which ones. If you want to stay there for a night or two, you'll probably have a better chance of finding a hotel in Monterosso, as it's the largest of the five towns and therefore has the largest number of hotels. If you can't find anything in the five towns of the C.T., you could always stay in Levanto or La Spezia and then just use the local train to explore. The Sentiero Azzurro trails will probably not be open then, so you'll have to rely on the local trains. They're cheap and run frequently so that's not a big deal. Thank you all for your candid replies re C.T. We will save that area for a better time of year when we can hike the paths and see all the area has to offer. Winter would not be a good idea!
